New Hampshire 300

The final race of the 2001 NASCAR Winston Cup season will be held Friday with the running of the New Hampshire 300.

This race was originally scheduled for Sept. 16, but was postponed because of the terrorists attacks which struck on Sept. 11.

Since the race was rescheduled, it will give NHIS the distinction of hosting the season finale, the first time since 1986 that the Winston Cup season's final race was not held at Atlanta Motor Speedway.

With the points championship already decided, fans can expect a wide-open race, as most drivers are no longer as concerned with gaining points and jockeying for position in the chase for the title.

New Hampshire International Speedway hosted its first NASCAR events in 1993.
