6:07 PM EST (2307 GMT)

NASCAR fans looking for a way to help victims of the September 11th terrorist attacks now have an opportunity to contribute funds to the American Red Cross September 11th Disaster Relief Fund. Starting October 26, 2001, NASCAR fans can purchase a limited-run, die-cast, 1:24th scale replica of the No. 36 ‘Stars and Stripes’ car driven by Ken Schrader at Dover Downs on September 23, 2001.

A donation of $30 from the sale of each $55 die-cast replica car will be made directly to the fund.

An outpouring of fan support for the ‘Stars and Stripes’ No. 36 Pontiac prompted M&M/MARS, Team Caliber, MB2 Motorsports, Ken Schrader, NASCARÒ, NASCAR.com, Pontiac and USA Electronic Commerce Solutions LLC, a subsidiary of USA Networks, Inc. to join forces to produce and sell a limited number of die-cast replicas of the one-time only paint scheme.

The car, painted in the colors of the American flag, carries no primary sponsor logos and only a handful of NASCARÒ contingency decals. The only other decals on the car include the No. 36 and the American Red Cross disaster relief number “1-800-Help-Now”.

“I was extremely honored to drive the ‘Stars and Stripes’ car at Dover, but I think it’s really neat that we’ve taken things one step further,” said “M&M’s ® Racing Team driver Ken Schrader. “Now the car is more than a paint scheme, it is a way for all NASCARÒ fans to reach out and support the disaster relief efforts of the American Red Cross.

"I think we are all still looking for ways to help. As passionate as NASCAR fans are, I think we have the opportunity to raise a lot of money for the victims and their families with this program.” The September 23 race at Dover Downs where the ‘Stars and Stripes’ car appeared was the first NASCARÒ Winston Cup Series event following the September 11th attacks.

The ‘Stars and Stripes’ die-cast car will retail for $55 plus applicable sales tax and $8.95 shipping and handling. The donation of proceeds from the sale of the ‘Stars and Stripes’ die-cast car will be made collectively by M&M/MARS, Team Caliber, MB2 Motorsports, Ken Schrader, NASCAR, NASCAR.COM, Pontiac, and USA Electronic Commerce Solutions.

NASCAR fans will be able to pre-order the ‘Stars and Stripes’ exclusively at the NASCAR.com store, located at www.nascar.com from October 26 to December 2, 2001. Only the exact number of cars ordered will be produced in a one-time only run.

“It seems NASCAR fans felt very strongly about the ‘Stars and Stripes’ car and everything that it stood for,” said William Clements, national sponsorship manager for M&M/MARS. “We’ve responded to the many NASCAR fans out there who are looking for ways to help the victims of the attacks and their families.

"By donating proceeds from the sale of this car to the American Red Cross, we are offering fans the opportunity to support the rescue efforts and have a piece of NASCAR history in return.”

“When we started making calls to set this project in motion, everyone readily offered their assistance in order to aid these families,” said Randy Duncan, vice president of Team Caliber. “This is not a time to make money, it is a time to give money to those in need.”
