CHECKERED/YELLOW FLAG: Jimmie Johnson wins the Subway 500, his third consecutive win at Martinsville. Ryan Newman finishes third, followed by Kyle Busch and Jeff Gordon.

WHITE FLAG: David Ragan spins and is sitting in the middle of the track, no caution as the leaders come upon him.

GREEN FLAG: Johnson, Newman, Gordon, with two laps to go.

Lap 496 -- CAUTION FLAG NO. 20: Bobby Labonte and Casey Mears this time, wrecking on the backstretch. We may be setting up for a green-white-checkered.

Lap 494 -- Newman works hard on Gordon and makes the pass for second.

Lap 493 -- Kenseth passes Junior for fourth.

Lap 490 -- GREEN FLAG: One more restart.

Lap 484 -- CAUTION FLAG NO. 19: Bill Elliott's car goes up in a huge cloud of smoke, right in front of the leaders.

Lap 482 -- Gordon gets a bumper inside coming out of Turn 4, but Johnson slams the door.

Lap 481 -- Kurt Busch slows.

Lap 480 -- GREEN FLAG: Johnson, Gordon, Newman.

Lap 476 -- CAUTION FLAG, NO. 18: Martin Truex Jr. goes around and has a flat left front tire. Looks like he got some help from David Ragan.

Lap 470 -- GREEN FLAG: Thirty laps to go, with Jimmie Johnson in the lead.

Lap 465 -- CAUTION FLAG NO. 17 -- Kyle Petty spins, courtesy of Martin Truex Jr., and collects Tony Stewart and Carl Edwards.

Lap 463 -- GREEN FLAG: Can Gordon return the favor, or are we looking at a repeat of the spring race?

Lap 457 -- CAUTION FLAG NO. 16: Ricky Rudd and Kasey Kahne make contact, and Rudd is into the wall.

Lap 456 -- LEAD CHANGE: Gordon and Johnson rub, Johnson makes the pass.

Lap 446 -- GREEN FLAG: Johnson is right on Gordon's bumper.

Lap 440 -- CAUTION FLAG NO. 15 -- Martin Truex Jr. and Casey Mears spin in Turn 3.

Lap 436 -- And Johnson finally completes the pass. Now, can he chase down the leader?

Lap 434 -- Side by side racing between Newman and Johnson. So far, the No. 12 is equal to the task.

Lap 422 -- GREEN FLAG: Gordon, Newman, Johnson ...

Lap 412 -- CAUTION FLAG NO. 14 -- Stremme and Truex touch, sending Stremme into a spin.

Lap 410 -- Kevin Harvick goes high in the corner and loses three or four spots.

Lap 402 -- GREEN FLAG: Gordon leads Newman to the line, with Johnson right behind.

Lap 396 -- Pits are open and this could be the last stop for the leaders.

Great stop for Gordon, as he comes out first, followed by Newman (who took two tires), Johnson, Kenseth, Junior, Harvick, Hamlin, Kyle Busch and Stewart.

Lap 395 -- CAUTION FLAG NO. 13: David Stremme spins.

Lap 390 -- Johnson is trying to find his way through lapped traffic, while Gordon remains right on his bumper.

Lap 375 -- Johnson leads Gordon by .7 seconds. The rest of the top 10: Harvick, Kyle Busch, Junior, Newman, Stewart, Labonte, Montoya and Jeff Burton.

Lap 355 -- LEAD CHANGE: Johnson gets past Kyle Busch.

Lap 350 -- Jeff Gordon is not full of fuel after the catch can came out during an adjustment. He can't make the distance, but crew chief Steve Letarte thinks no one else can, either.

Lap 342 -- Leaders on pit road.

• Johnson gets four tires and an air pressure adjustment to the right rear.
• Gordon has some trouble with the left rear.
• Hamlin is slow getting away after the crew struggles with the left front.
• Labonte makes up six spots, while Truex is up 12.
